Job Duties & Responsibilities: Energy Accountant - Gothenburg NE

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

The Energy Accountant serves as a key member of both the Energy and Accounting teams by providing accounting support, customer service, contract administration, fuel card processing, accounts payable assistance, and administration of customer energy programs. This position is responsible for customer billing activities, monthly fuel stock additions, propane contract administration, Secure Comfort program management, and various accounting and administrative functions that support the daily operations of the Energy Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following and others may be assigned)

Accounting & Financial Management

  • Prepare, reconcile, and post invoices for energy products and services.
  • Reconcile daily fuel deliveries for invoicing.
  • Monitor customer accounts, apply payments, and assist with collection activities.
  • Complete monthly fuel stock additions and related accounting entries.
  • Assist with monthly account reconciliations and financial reporting activities.
  • Process customer and company fuel card transactions and reconciliations.
  • Assist with daily cash receipts, deposits, and accounting support functions.
  • Maintain accurate records and supporting documentation for audits and financial reporting.
  • Work closely with the Controller and Accounting Department to ensure accurate and timely financial information.

Accounts Payable Support

  • Assist with accounts payable processing, including coding, matching, and reviewing invoices.
  • Ensure invoices are processed accurately and timely.
  • Work with vendors and internal personnel to resolve invoice discrepancies.
  • Support month-end and year-end accounting processes as assigned

Secure Comfort Program Administration

Serve as the primary administrator for the Secure Comfort Program, which includes approximately 350 customer accounts.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing annual settlement letters.
  • Preparing and distributing new Secure Comfort agreements for each heating season.
  • Preparing customer payment booklets for customers paying by cash or check.
  • Maintaining daily payment tracking spreadsheets.
  • Monitoring payment activity and customer account status.
  • Preparing and distributing monthly past-due notices.
  • Providing customer service related to billing, enrollment, contracts, payments, and account questions.
  • Maintaining accurate customer records and program documentation.

Energy Customer Service & Contract Administration

  • Maintain propane contract records and related customer documentation.
  • Support energy sales and operations personnel with customer account maintenance and contract administration.
  • Resolve customer billing issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while promoting Country Partners' products and services.
  • Assist customers with propane and fuel orders.
  • Serve as backup for the front desk and reception area.
  • Answer and direct incoming telephone calls.
  • Assist walk-in customers and visitors.
  • Provide administrative support to Energy, Accounting, and other departments as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Administrative Support

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree in accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Three to five years of accounting, bookkeeping, customer service, or administrative experience preferred.
  • Experience with accounts payable, account reconciliations, customer account management, and Microsoft Excel preferred.
  • Agricultural, cooperative, propane, fuel, or energy industry experience is beneficial.

  • Strong accounting and reconciliation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and accounting software systems.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Demonstrate technology aptitude with the ability to learn and effectively utilize new software, systems, and digital tools.
  • Willingness to embrace change, adapt to evolving business processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
